Making every child in Sunyani matter!
Have you ever wondered who decides how the schools, clinics and parks in your town get better — and how you can help?
The Sunyani Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region made its very own district plan so that every child in Sunyani grows up safe, healthy, happy and included — no matter who they are or what special needs they have!
First, two big words
Grown-ups use some tricky words for this. Here is what they actually mean.
Imagine your neighbourhood as a huge team — the District Assembly is like the coaches and leaders of that team!
They are the local government people whose job is to take care of the town: fix roads, build schools, keep streets clean, and make sure everyone stays safe and happy.
A district plan is like a giant map made by local leaders to make a town or city a much better place to live!
Instead of adults just guessing what to do, the plan lists the biggest problems — dirty streets, schools that need help, places that need safer parks — then writes a step-by-step checklist for fixing them.
Our big dream
Five big dreams, for every single kid in Sunyani — including children with disabilities.
At home and all around the community.
And a big, supportive family around them.
Schools, parks and health centres — including children with disabilities.
And grows up strong and well.
One that gets the money help and support it needs.
Who is the plan for?
Everybody counts — and the plan makes sure help reaches the children who need it most.
Every kid in Sunyani, and the mums, dads and caregivers who look after them.
Kids whose bodies or brains work in their own way, and who need the right support to join in.
Kids who need protection right away, and a warm, caring place to stay.
Homes where money is tight, so food, clothes and school things are hard to get.
The big idea
You are the reason the whole plan exists — and in Child Parliaments, you get to share your big ideas too!
Mums, dads and caregivers pick up parenting tips and support each other, so no parent feels alone.
Doctors, teachers, social workers, leaders and police all pull in the same direction instead of working alone.
Understanding the plan
To make the dream come true, Sunyani's leaders are focusing on six priority areas — and every one of them points back at the same thing.
Safe & Protected Kids. Helper teams, a safe haven and strong child-rights laws keep every child safe from harm.
Child protection & family care
The whole community keeps watch, so every child is safe from harm!
Local helper teams, so anyone who spots a child in danger knows exactly who to tell.
A 20-bed shelter run by the town — a warm, safe place with loving care for children who need protection right away.
Making sure strong laws that protect every child's safety and well-being are really followed.
Responsive caregiving
A happy home is where every child's story begins — and every child gets a voice!
Sharing great parenting ideas on the radio, at church, at the mosque and in neighbourhood centres.
Groups for families caring for children with special needs, so no parent ever feels alone.
Fun Child Parliaments and radio shows where children speak up and share their big ideas!
Disability inclusion
Every door open, every path smooth — so every child can play and learn with their friends!
Smooth ramps, wide doors, handrails and toilets everyone can use — at schools, clinics and public centres.
Wheelchairs and other helpful tools, so every child with special needs can play and learn alongside their friends.
Speaking up so children with disabilities always get the same love, fairness and chances as everyone else.
Health & nutrition
Get moving, eat well and keep Sunyani clean and green!
Family walks and children's sports days to keep everyone active and happy!
School and community food fairs that teach children all about delicious, healthy eating.
Neighbourhood clean-up days and school tree-planting clubs to take care of our environment.
Social protection
When a family gets a helping hand, the children get what they need!
Connecting families in need to school feeding, money help like LEAP, and job support, so parents can provide for their children.
Helping families earn a steady income, so every child has food, clothes and school supplies.
Governance & coordination
No one can do it alone — so everybody joins one big team!
Bringing doctors, teachers, social workers, local leaders and police into one team to support our children.
Training teachers, social workers and caregivers so they know how to give every child the best care possible.
Why six super powers and not one
Imagine building Sunyani out of giant toy blocks. Every colour is one of the six super powers — take a colour away and the whole town wobbles.
Food fairs are great — but not if a family can't afford dinner. Ramps help — but not if nobody is keeping watch that children are safe. When all six super powers work together, Sunyani becomes a place where every child matters.
Sunyani is your home too. Your voice matters — just like every child.
Your turn
See something? Say something to a grown-up you trust
Join a clean-up day or plant a tree
Invite every kid to play with you
Working together
These are the teams helping Sunyani turn the plan into safe homes, healthy bodies and welcoming spaces.
